FULL FACE HELMET REQUIRED FOR DOWNHILL AND 4X

While there have been lots of minor rule changes, there are some that are very important. The biggest one on the list is the new rule 1N2. This rule requires a full-face helmet for downhill and 4X events. This is one of those rules that has no grey area, like the regular helmet rule. A rider lacking a full-face helmet does not start a downhill or a 4X. If a rider is allowed to start without a full-face helmet, it would be no different than a rider riding without a helmet. It is an instant disqualification.

MSC SERIES OVERALL POINTS

We've had some questions about how series overall points will be calculated so here's the gist of it:

Endurance: Series points will be tabulated from CAT 3 through Pro in Cross Country (XC, HC, STXC). There are 13 individual races spread over eight venues (The Fall Classic is a stage race and the TT, Circuit Race and XC counts as one race. Racers must finish in all three stages to have a result in this race). Racers will earn points for their best 11 of 13 races.

Gravity: Series points will be tabulated from CAT 3 through PRO in Gravity (DH, 4X & DS).  Racers will earn points for their best 8 of 10 races.

Super D: Series points will be tabulated from junior through open in Super-D. Racers will earn points for their best 4 of 5 races.

USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships is not a part of the Mountain States Cup and will not be tabulated into series points. It is a stand alone event in which individuals must qualify for. For more information on qualification visit Solvistanationals.com .

RABBIT VALLEY XC COURSE INFORMATION

LASTEST NEWS: We'll be running this course in the opposite direction as described here. The course is much more and won't incorporate as many hike n' bike sections. We'll have a map available at registration at both Over the Edge on Friday and at the race site Saturday and Sunday.

Straight from the man in the hat:

"Hey all you folks headed over to pre-ride the cross country course. It is marked with pink flagging tape. The course will head out the same way it did last year. When you get to the turn that went down to the Western Rim Trail, stay on the Kokopelli Trail (road) the same way you came back in last year from the end of the Western Rim Trail.

When you get to the point where the Western Rim Trail came back to the Kokopelli Trail you will turn to the west and follow it. It is known as the Westwater Mesa Trail. It is quite challenging. It has several super steep section before a road section. Follow that for a bit, keeping an eye out for the pink flagging tape. You are only on the road for a short bit and then back on to fun and challenging singletrack after another 4 - 5 miles. At this pont, which is the 16 mile mark, you will hit the Kokopelli Trail and drop off the mesa. You will follow this all the way back to the Trail #2. Look for the Shimano tape and the pink flagging tape on the left . You will follow Trail #2 all the way back to the finish area. The entire loop for Pro's and Cat 1 is 27.5 miles +/- 1 mile."

PRO PAYOUT

Pro payout for Rabbit Valley Rally will be based on 50% pro participation. The more players, the bigger the booty.

IN MEMORIUM: Mike Janelle, 1967-2007

If you've been racing cross country in the Rockies over the past decade, chances are pretty good that you've crossed paths with Mike Janelle. For the past several years he'd been a staple on the Tokyo Joes squad. Shortly after Thanksgiving in 2007, Mike was taken from his wife Maribel and then unborn son, Lil' Mike. The folks at Tokyo Joes have set up a website where you can make a donation to help Mike's family get through the next few years. In return, you'l get an education about a man who lived life like it was meant to be lived. He was a sportsmanlike competitor, a friend to those in need and a beacon of hope to those mired in petty workday issues or seemingly endless 80-hour weeks at a desk. For your small donation, you'll also get some great swag- stuff that serves as a reminder to work to live, not the other way around. Please visit www.LIVELIKEMIKE.org - even if only to remidn yourself of how precious each day really is.
